De-worming (sometimes known as worming, drenching or "dehelminitization") is the giving of anthelmintic drug (a wormer, dewormer, or drench) to humans to rid them of helminths parasites, such as roundworm, flukes and tapeworm.
There are 22 local government areas in Rivers State which will benefit from the free de-worming exercise, to be carried out in schools for pupils aged 5 - 14 years on Tuesday the 26th of June 2018.
The Rivers State Ministry of Health in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Evidence Action have called on parents, caregivers, private and public school heads to ensure children participate in the forthcoming de-worming exercise.
The free de-worming exercise will boost the children's stability in school which will in turn, improve their academic performance.
A survey carried out by World Health Organisation (WHO) reveals that Rivers State has high prevalence of soil-transmitted diseases.
In view of the foregoing, the free de-worming exercise will have a positive outcome as the effect will help keep the children healthy so that they will pursue their academics without difficulties.
