Speaking at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt on Tuesday 25th September 2018, the Deputy British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Laure Beaufils declared that the British Government will work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the 2019 elections will be peaceful and credible, while in a closed door meeting with the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Laure Beaufils stated that the technical progress achieved in the Osun State elections on Saturday 22nd September, 2018, should be improved upon next year. She continued and said that there has been significant progress in the electoral process, which she hopes will be replicated across the country in 2019.
Nyesom Wike said the state is fully committed to peaceful and credible polls, and urged the International Community to prevail on INEC and security agencies not to interfere with the voting process in the course of the 2019 elections. He continued and said that the Rivers State election will be free and fair if the people are allowed to determine what will happen at the polls.
