PDP wins 31 local government councils in Akwa Ibom

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has won all the 31 local government council’s in the Saturday’s elections in Akwa Ibom State.
The Party also won the 329 wards in the state.
The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral commission, (AKISIEC) Mr Aniedi Ikoiwak said the election was contested by 12 political parties and PDP won the 31 chairmanship and 329 councillorship seats respectively.
“The election was contested by 12 political parties and PDP won the 31 chairmanship and 329 councillorship seats respectively,” he said.

Ikoiwak, however, confirmed the announcement and declaration made by the authorized returning officers in various wards and local government areas.
“The details of the scores of the election as submitted by the field officers will be made available by the field operations and logistics department of the commission in the later date,” he said.
Interestingly, the chairmen elect of the 31 local government areas in the Saturday’s election will be presented with the certificate of return by the commission today, December 4, 2017.
Sadly, the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the State has rejected the result of the election declared by AKISIEC.
In a statement released by the state chapter of the APC, signed by the state chairman, Dr Amadu Atai and the secretary, Dr Effiong Etuk, the party described the Saturday’s election as below standard expected from a free and credible election.
“The style of declaring result through a press statement in this year’s local government election in Akwa Ibom state is strange compared to the previous exercises where the chief returning officer always addresses newsmen and gives details of the results.”
