RIWAMA Sole Administrator, Bro Felix Obuah Cautions Residents To Observe Laid Down Rules
The Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA, Bro Felix Obuah says the days of grace given to residents in the State who have continued to dispose their wastes indiscriminately are over, warning that henceforth, anyone caught in the ugly act will be prosecuted and punished in line with laid down sanitation laws.
Bro Obuah while on an unscheduled inspection visit to parts of the State capital notably, Ikwerre Road, Ada-George, GRA, Mgbuoba, East/West Road, Azikiwe, Diobu, Elekahia, Akpajo, Old Aba Road, Woji, Agip, Mile 4, Rumuigbo, Rumuokwuta, Rumuola, Elelenwo as well as the newly acquired dumpsites Sunday night, restated that the laws on the time and designated places to dump refuse were still in force.
The approved hours for the disposal of refuse still remains 7pm to 2am, the Sole Administrator emphasized.
Bro Obuah frowned at the lawless attitude of some evening traders who still carry on with their business activities along the major roads and directed that they move to government approved markets, stop discharging wastes on the median and also keep to the approved dumping hours.
The Sole Administrator, however, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Task Force put in place by the Agency to monitor sanitation activities and indiscriminate dumping of refuse within Port Harcourt and its environs.
The Task Force who were part of the Sole Administrator’s inspection tour, arrested over 25 sanitation defaulters during the exercise and promptly handed them over to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of RIWAMA who was also on the entourage for prosecution.
Also on the entourage of the Sole Administrator for the inspection and monitoring exercise were the Director of administration of RIWAMA, Ian Abraham Gobo and all Special Advisers.
Signed:
Jerry Needam,
Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Bro. Felix Obuah, Sole Administrator,
Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA).
